Mother Karima’s Bacon, Egg & Cheese Strata
Ingredients
1 loaf Asiago bread from Panera’s - cubed
1 cup evaporated milk
1 pint half-and-half
6 slices bacon - crumbled
1/2# sharp cheddar cheese
5 eggs
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 can green chilies
Directions:
Toss cubed bread with bacon & grated cheeses. Pour into buttered 9x13 baking dish. Whisk together eggs, milk, half-and-half. & mustard. Add chilies. Pour over bread & cheese, pushing down the bread to soak it well. If not enough liquid, add a little more milk.
Refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours. Remove from refrigerator 1/2 hour before baking. Bake at 340 degrees for about 1 hour, or until knife inserted into center comes out clean.
Variation: steamed broccoli may be added before refrigerating.
