The Author










John Womack served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1976, retiring as a Major, a Master Navigator, Senior Missileer, and a graduate of Air War College. He completed three tours in SEA, two of them directing B-52 bombing raids known as  “Arc-Light” missions.  In 1966, he and his crew launched a Titan II ICBM from Vandenberg AFB, titled “Giant Train”. He published several articles in the Strategic Air Command flying safety magazine “Combat Crew”, and participated in the SAC Speakers Bureau, presenting lectures and seminars. He has published two books about his Air Force experiences.


Womack has a Master's degree in Business Administration, and since retirement has taught business-related courses in colleges in three states over twenty-four years.


He also worked with the State of Florida for thirteen years as Budget Director in Department of General Services,  Senior Auditor in the Department of State, and the Supervisor of Accounting Services in the Comptroller’s Office.


Since moving to North Carolina he has taught photographic art for more than twenty years, and presented lectures and exhibitions throughout western North Carolina.


Now he maintains a photographic art studio in Hickory, an on-line presence with web page and blogs, and he writes. He and his wife, JoAnn, have five children and six granddaughters. The top photo was made in 1956, the bottom one in 1976.
